Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two safety personnel darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event occurred on the third circuit when track officials were spotted on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an premature pit stop to change his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I came out on a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two individuals running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Clearly there's been a failure in communication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track track officials can be permitted to just dash across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is actively examining the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was informed that fragments were located on the track at the apex of that corner" stated the governing body

"On lap three, track officials were informed and put on alert to access the circuit and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had pitted, the directives to deploy marshals were canceled and a double yellow flag was shown in that zone"

"The examination is ongoing what happened following that moment"
